imac screen not powering on please help

Hello, so yesterday my imac screen decided not to power on. The computer itself powers on I can hear it (start up tone chimes once and I can hear it loading) but the screen stays black, the computer is a 2010 imac which I bought used this year, I've had no other probs with it apart from the fans being a little noisy at times. I will also mention this happened after I downloaded some larger files, around 6/7 gb. I still have plenty of hd memory (900+gb) and am running 12gb ram. Any help would be great, thank you

I would try the following first:
-How to reset the System Management Controller (SMC) on your Mac
-How to reset NVRAM on your Mac

See if that corrects the issue and let us know.
