i mac upgrade

i have an i mac 2.8 g with 2 giggs of ram in it. i have logic 8 and plan to install final cut pro as well. i plan on getting an external hard drive 500 g with firewire and having a total max of 4 giggs of ram in it. will my i mac be strong enough to power these 2 programs.
