How To Uninstall iOS or iPadOS Beta [Easy]

Having beta software on your iPhone or iPad can be exciting, offering early access to new features. However, if you're encountering bugs or just prefer the stability of official releases, removing the beta software becomes necessary. Here's how to do it, with or without a computer.

1. Removing Beta Software Without a Computer​

If your device is running iOS 16.4 or iPadOS 16.4 or later:
  1. Open the Settings app on your device.
  2. Navigate to General and then select Software Update.
  3. Look for the Beta Updates section.
  4. If your device is running iOS 16.4 or iPadOS 16.4 or later, tap on Beta Updates and select Off.

For iOS 16.3.1 or earlier versions:

  1. Go to General, then VPN & Device Management.
  2. Find and tap on the iOS & iPadOS Beta Software Profile.
  3. Select Remove Profile.
  4. You may need to enter your device passcode and then tap Remove.
By opting out of beta updates and removing the beta profile, your device is set to automatically update to the latest official version, which can enhance stability and performance without erasing your data.

2. Removing Beta Software With a Computer​

  1. Ensure your Mac has the latest version of macOS or your PC has the latest version of iTunes installed.
  2. Connect your device to your computer using a USB cable.
  3. Put your device into recovery mode. The method varies depending on your device model, so follow the appropriate instructions for your iPhone or iPad model.
    • For iPad without a Home button and iPhone 8 or later: Quickly press and release the volume up button, then the volume down button. Press and hold the top or side button until the recovery mode screen appears.
    • For iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus, or iPod touch (7th generation): Press and hold both the Sleep/Wake and volume down buttons until you see the recovery mode screen.
    • For iPhone 6s and earlier, iPad with a Home button, or iPod touch (6th generation or earlier): Press and hold both the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons until the recovery mode screen appears.
  4. Choose the Restore option when it appears on your computer. This erases your device and installs the latest non-beta version of iOS or iPadOS.
  5. After the restore finishes, you can set up your device using an archived backup from a previous version of iOS or iPadOS, if available.
This approach ensures that your device is completely free of beta software by erasing all content and settings, providing a fresh start with the latest official iOS or iPadOS version. Remember to back up important data before proceeding to avoid loss.
