Hi, hav jsut had a frustrating day, taking photos of all the damage in my shed (from a flood 3 years ago. I have not had the hert to open it till now. so many valuable items destroyed.)

and i am taking photos using my iphone, in photo mode. and after a half hour. i noticed that it had changed to cinie with out me knowing at the time.

(I have diabetes, and my finger are dry and stinging slightly. and i hav had thi soften. I had to go back and re do it all.. probably missed a few items)

is there any way top lock it in photo mode so it wont change.?

my other frustration with it. many of the phoots i take DONT show up in my iMac (M1 os 15.3.1) even when i use "Import all new"..

tempted to break it over tim cooks desk.

regards, Sandy

Unfortunately, there's no way to lock the iPhone camera in Photo mode, but you can use Guided Access to keep the camera app open and stop it from switching modes. For the photos not showing up on your iMac, make sure iCloud Photos is turned on and check Finder to see if they’re there. Also, try restarting both your iPhone and iMac – that might help sync them. Hope this helps!

I’m sorry for the frustration you’re experiencing. To lock your iPhone in Photo mode, try using portrait orientation or enable AssistiveTouch for custom gestures. Alternatively, third-party camera apps like Halide offer more control.

For photos not showing up on your iMac, make sure iCloud Photos is enabled on both devices. Use the Photos app on your Mac to import images rather than relying on Finder. Also, check for software updates on both devices to resolve syncing issues.

I hope this helps make things smoother for you!

In iOS 18, I'm not sure about earlier models an iOS but in Camera Preferences you can enable a number of preferences.

For you Formats; set to most compatible rather than HEIF this will result in smaller jpeg images
Preserve Settings; Set to camera Mode so it always open as Camera.
And at the bottom, Live Photo, turn this feature off.

As for syncing, I think most of us use iCloud Photo Library these days since the retirement of My Photo Stream but it takes up a lot of iCloud Storage so you might want to think twice about that.

You can also use the Finder to sync photos between devices, I think you already know this but here are all the options as described by Apple ; https://support.apple.com/en-us/102375
