Help - accidentally saved over an important work file!

Hello,

I'm new on here and hope someone can help me!

Just made a silly mistake - typed up and saved a word document then started on a slightly different version, I know I should have opened up a new file for this but I was lazy and just decided to do 'save as' instead...only I mistakenly hit 'save' and have now lost my original document, arrrrgh!! Is there any way I can retrieve the original document? It was saved on an external hard drive and not my mac documents folder, so I am bracing myself for a 'probably not' answer but thought I'd try anyway.

Hi and welcome,

By the sound of it you have defiantly overwritten the original doc, you could try going to file > open recent.
But don't hold out much hope.

no, but if you had been on 10.7 or later and using Apple Software you could just Browse all Versions and go to any point in your editing.

I love this feature and upgraded just to get it, no more lost info, ever.

Thanks for the replies. I've learnt my lesson and am going to look into upgrading my software so I can get the autosave
