Filenames Messing Up

Since the last update whenever I start to save a file (in Adobe Photoshop, Microsoft Word, Etc.) I will clear the filename field and begin to type a new filename and the extension for the file gets immediately inserted after the first letter I type. This is screwing up my workflow as well as other things. To be clear, if I'm trying to type a filename like "FullPageAd112221.psd" it will become "F.psdullPageAd112221" I need to fix this as soon as possible. Can anyone help?

Hello and welcome.
  • Which model Mac?
  • Which version of macOS?
  • Which versions of Photoshop, Word, etc.?
  • Does this happen in every application's Save dialog box?
  • Are you saving locally to a folder on the Mac or using a cloud-based service like Google Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive, Adobe Creative Cloud, etc.?

Model: It just says Late 2014 Mac Mini
OS: Monterey 12.0.1
Photoshop 23.0.2 (but I've tried on earlier versions as well), Word 16.55 (I don't use Word much but I did test it and it does happen in this application as well), Notes 4.9, Adobe Illustrator 26.0.1, etc.
Yes, this happens in every application.
Saving to my hard rive or to a local server on our network.

Edit: Apparently it's a Macmini7,1
