Erasing A Hard Drive

If I erase my hard drive will all my applications be gone to or will they stay. I am going to erase from Disk Utility if the applications do stay, otherwise what other way is there?

The answer is yes you will wipe the disc clean if you use Disc utilities, if you wish only to remove and reinstall you operating system look hear
help from Apple
