Power mac g5. Tiger 7.4 All my external hard drives have disappeared, both firewire 400,800 and USB.

I have an identical G5 and the same happens if I plug them in that one?

They do not show up in disk utility on either computer.

They do show up if I plug them into my MacBook air?

The USB sees, mouse keyboard hub etc but not a USB hard drive.

Very strange indeed?????? please help

It was all working fine yesterday.

many thanks

First, what "activities" did you do between yesterday and today? Did you update any software and/or install something new?

Secondly, try another USB/Firewire 400/Firewire 800 port, both on your Mac and on the external drive/drives.

Third, for your MacBook Air, if it is a "recent" model, it has only USB ports. I therefore suspect you are (successfully) connecting your drives to that Mac via USB. Correct?

Fourth, are you running Tiger (OS 10.7.4) on all your Macs? If not, what other versions of the Mac OS are you using?

For the "problematic" drive, how exactly did you find out? Also, does that drive have a USB port?
