Downloading files to a specific folder from an email

Not sure this is the correct forum to post this so please redirect me if not.
I have students frequently send me files of all types I want to keep in different folders. When I try to save it, all I get is a save command. Then after I save it downloads I can save it in the documents folder, I can't figure out how to select which folder to save it into. I'm new from Windows, obviously.
Also, if any one has some suggestions on video or sites where I could learn some of these basics I'd sure appreciate some url's.

You can choose where to save them:
Mail (Yosemite): View, save, or delete attachments
