Disc full, but can't delete and make space

Mac OS X 10.5.2 Power book PC G4. says disc is full, 1.9GB available
Can't boot Iphoto
Have copied all photos and music to both an external hard drive and my IPOD (just to be safe) Then deleted loads of files but hardley made any space.
Yes have emptied trash.
Tried disc utility repair disc permission
tried rebuilding IPhoto library.
HELP
