Connecting MacBook Pro to TV

Hi, I need a bit of help.

I have a MacBook Pro and just recently got a new lcd tv, I brought the mini display port to hdmi cable, set it all up, but all I get on my tv is a wallpaper, and not even the wallpaper I use on my laptop.

Any advice on what's happening and how I can get the display to show on my tv so I can watch things on my tv, etc?

Go into System Preferences > Displays and enable Mirroring
