Camera deactivated?

Hi... hope you are all well.

I've got a MacBook Pro (with High Sierra) from a second hand shop. Great laptop... apart from the exception that the camera function seems to be turned off. Neither the in-built camera nor an external webcam works. I can't even see "Camera" in System Preferences - Security and Privacy - Privacy".

Do you have any suggestions how I can turn the camera function back on?

Many thanks,
Steve

Hello and welcome.

Strange...even if the built-in camera is physically disconnected or not working, an external USB camera should work.

-Which exact model MacBook Pro?
-My iMac's working built-in camera doesn't show in System Preferences... > Security & Privacy > Privacy in High Sierra either.
-Does the built-in camera work in Photo Booth?
-What brand/model is the external camera?
-Do the cameras show in  > About This Mac > System Report... > Hardware > Camera or USB?

Hi Cory

Many thanks for your reply.

Model: MacBookPro11,4
PhotoBooth: No, doesn't work
Webcam: ZasLuke Webcam, 1080P HD USB Webcam (quite a cheap one from Amazon)
 > About This Mac > System Report... > Hardware > Camera or USB: It only says "There was an error while scanning for video capture device"

Thanks,
Stephan
