Can anyone tell me about how many processes are typically supposed to be running when I boot up my MacBook. I am running Monterrey on a 2019 MacBook Pro (13") and the only apps that don't come with the computer that I use are Logic Pro and Djay Pro A1, I have pixelmatr but it barely gets used. There are several processes said to be running twice in the background and some even say they have been running all night (after I have shut down my computer). The apple scripts icon is always visible in the menu bar even though the App isn't open, folders randomly change location and files are created with guest permissions to administrator folders (some of which I can't change the permissions at all). Many of the folders and files I end up deleting say there are over thousands of items when I delete just a handful and sometimes this freezes the computer.

Hello and welcome.

Normally, there are several hundred processes running, most of which are macOS itself. I strongly suggest not trying to identify them in Activity Monitor and then trying to locate and delete them, as your Mac can become very unstable and not even be able to startup if you somehow delete required system files.

Is there a particular issue you are having that is causing you to perform those deletions?

That is the problem. Folders and files being duplicated, system preferences changing on their own or reverting back to original settings (leaving me to ONCE AGAIN change them back); files creating themselves (then making several aliases); files producing suspicious script and automatic workflows that are specific and accordingly …
