Automator runs workflow when USB drive is connected

I have extensively searched but can't find any answers since 2007, I am looking for a way for automator to initiate a workflow when a particular USB drive is connected. I found a good post from 2007 that works on Tiger apparently, but the newer version of automator cannot save as a plugin. Does anyone have a lead on this for me?

Yes, you are right. I think this is on purpose as its a known attack point for malicious apps.
