Hey Guys,

I'm trying to install ipads using apple Automator.
Erase, Restore, Rename and all Install Actions works perfectly.
But I can't prepare devices.

I get this error: "cfgutil: error: Unknown option '--skip-tos'"

In a line i have read that i need a valid "Host Certificate"....
Do you know where i can create this host certificate?

regards John

Hello and welcome.

-Which version of OS X?
-Is this deployment for a business/school, or personal devices?
-How many devices?
-Do you have a MDM solution in place?
-Do you need to have Automator in your workflow?

- My OS is El Capitan 10.11
- It's for school with 30-50 devices without MDM

Yes i can deploy my devices without Automator (Only Configurator), but not other teachers.
I need an easy way (Workflow) that other teachers can click one Link to install, restore or erase ipads.

I don't understand the error message "cfgutil: error: Unknown option '--skip-tos" and the note "Host Certificate"....
All other Workflows are working... only the prepare Workflow shows this error.

Hope you can help me...
And sry for bad english xD

maybe for understanding:

i would like to control the Apple Configurator using Automator.
for example:

Workflow/Program:
1.) Get Connected Devices
2.) Erase Devices
3.) Prepare Devices (Supervised --> no MDM)
4.) Install Profiles
5.) Install Apps
6.) Install Background Wallpaper

The problem is, after "erase devices" ipads lose their supervised mode
So i need "prepare devices" that i can supervise the ipads again....

If Automator try to prepare devices i get the error message above.
Has anybody an idea?? :'(

Because of the way Configurator works (Prepare/Supervise/Assign), I think it may not be able to be used with Automator. Since some of the steps you outlined work together, and others are dependent on the completion of other steps, it may not be feasible. In addition, Configurator can be very temperamental, and failures are semi-regular, depending on how complex the configurations are.

I will talk to some other folks I know that have extensive knowledge with regards to Apple Configurator.

I spoke to a few friends about this issue, and they sad they wouldn't recommend trying to script Configurator, due to the nature of its workflow as I stated.

I will continue to see if I can find out anything further and let you know.
