Automating .sql file

I have recently converted to Mac OS. In my previous windows environment I have a .bat file, which when executed causes a .sql file to perform a task in our products database. In the Mac environment I need to find a way for that .sql file to do its thing. I am not that technical and had some assistance in the Windows environment but my colleague is not conversant with Mac
I would be grateful for advice

I would advise Sequel Pro, works great and its free.

Thanks for the advice. I forgot to mention the database I am using is Open Office and HSQLDB. Will Sequel pro work with this
