Anyone know what the "Atom" app is for. never hear of it and dont remember installing it.

again clicking on unknown files and finaly fpoun wher it said "Git" but still dont know what it is.

so this time, WHAT is the "Atom" app and do i really need it.. canm i Thow it. What doe sit do.?

The Atom.app was associated with GitHub, but it has been discontinued.

On June 8, 2022, GitHub announced Atom's end-of-life, occurring on December 15 of the same year, justifying its need "to prioritize technologies that enable the future of software development", specifically its GitHub Codespaces and Visual Studio Code, developed by Microsoft which had acquired GitHub in 2018.

Thanks for the reply. But I still dont know what GitHub does and how it ever got onto my M1 imac which i bough int 2022. i did a Firewire copy preference from my old destroyed 27" imac which fused after the 2022 floods.. si t must have also copied 'what ever it is" over. i thought it did not know it copied apps or programs. only preferences....
