Always have to change the "-number" at end of shared folder name? Why?

I'm on a network using x11 based RIP large format printers -- whiich means we're running older versions of everything. When generating a file for a machine in the back (windows 10 based) every day we have to update the destination folder's name inside the RIP software that runs on our iMac -- it always has a "-1" or "-2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9" etc after its name. Is there a reason for this? It isn't a problem just annoying and if there's a viable reason/excuse I'd like to know what and why its doing that.

Hello and welcome.

Sorry for the delayed response. I haven't used a RIP since the late '90s/early '00s, so I will have to do a little research. ;)
  • What brand/model is the RIP printer?
  • The RIP is shared on the network via the Windows 10 computer, correct?
  • Are all of the computers and RIP bound to AD on your network?
  • Is this a new issue or has it always done this?
  • What version of OS X/macOS?
