White screen with folder - Help!

Woke this morning to a black screen with arrow. Could get nothing else. Wouldn't turn off. Unplugged, replugged. Got white screen with a folder on which was a question mark. I have never seen this before. Anyone else know about this? Have any suggestions? Help! And thanks.

The OS has been corrupted, you will need to install it again or restore from a backup. You may be able to a Restore in Place and preserve your data.
