Has anyone encountered an issue where Win 7 made a problem so that the Mac won't return to OS X unless the computer is powered down, option key is depressed and OS X drive is reenabled? If so how was it solved short of starting with a fresh OS X build?

Which version of OS X/macOS?
If you installed the Boot Camp drivers, there is a Boot Camp Control Panel that will let you select the Mac startup disk:
Start up your Mac in Windows or macOS with Boot Camp
Visit that link, select your version of OS X/macOS, and follow the instructions.

Thanks for your reply. I am using OS X 10.11 El Capitan. What I was referring to was when the computer is acting normally and I selected Win vs Mac OS X. What happened was when I was doing a reboot of Windows 7 following a series of updates, the computer hung up during a restart of Windows post updates when those updates were applying them selfs to Win but wouldn't. I ended up powering down, then back up pressing the option key to reinitialize the OS X volume vs Bootcamp(Windows).I was wondering if anyone else had experienced the same issue.
