Hello and welcome,

Which version of macOS and how are you accessing the account?

Actually, Hotmail was introduced on July 4, 1996, so it has only been around for 29 years. ;)

If you have worked with Hotmail/Microsoft support, and it is locked due to too many failed attempts, you would need to resolve that account issue with them. Are you able to login via a web browser? If so, it may just be your mail client software, and you could try to delete and re-add the account in that application.

I have quite an old Mac with Monterey version12.7.6 ( showing as up to date)
I have looked through System Preferences - Passwords and have 4 different
accounts and their associated passwords ( ie hotmail, outlook + two others
My big question is can I delete these accounts completely Lyn the system preferences
and passwords section.
I don’t have Microsoft for MacBooks on my machine. Is there another free email app that
I can use; I am retired from work some 14 years ago so hotmail now would not be a big issue
now. Many thanks in advance if you can help as you have done so in previous years
