Second monitor issues MacBook pro 2012

Is anyone having issue when hooked up with second monitor the screen goes black then comes back on intermittently.....
I have a MacBook pro built mid 2012 15"
If so is there a fix ?????
I have seen this issue on YouTube in earlier builds but no comment on how to resolve !!!!

A Mac than young shouldn't have a fault, get it to an AppleService Centre for them to check it out. PS ensure you purchase extended AppleCare for just such problems.
