SOLVED Replacing my 2010 iMac

I have gotten a lot of pleasure from this iMac but I am afraid, given it's age, to do updates.

The hard drive crashed some years back and luckily the were able to recover my pictures and also put some additional memory and added storage.

It has 2 tb with 1.71 available. All my space is taken up with photos.

I have used a PC for years and unfortunately know little about using a Mac, bit am retired now and want to learn.

Can I work with the Photo features on a Mac Book with the pictures on an external hard drive? I can't begin to afford one again with this much storage.

Yes, you can run your Photos Library from an external drive: Move your Photos library to save space on your Mac

Same can be done for iTunes/Music.
