Re-named my user name in HD which reset everything

I re-named my user name and after shutting down my computer today all of my apps and configurations were stored in a folder outside my account folder. I could probably drag everything back in, but everything would be back to the state it was in just after being installed... (Firefox, itunes, etc.)

Is there any other way to go about this?
