Power cable for mac mini

My understanding is the mac mini uses the same power cable as the apple TV. At least they are selling a cable that works for either. The cable they are selling is 125V, 7 amps. Can I use a cable I have from something else on the mac mini? The connectors are the same and the cable indicates is is 125V, 2.5 Amps.
