need help setting up 2nd music player on one iMac

I have my current iTunes set up with mostly aac files for synching to my iPod. I want to set up another app, preferably NOT iTunes with uncompressed wav music files for playing on my home stereo.These files would be on an external hard drive. On my old pc I would have used windows media player for this, is their a similar app that will work well on a mac?
