I have a weird issue with a MacBook Pro used by our local youth group that I haven’t managed to resolve.

Any help much appreciated as we don’t have funds for a replacement! And had received these as a donation.

When hooked up to power the screen flashes on and off every 20s ish. With nothing on the screen just backlight.

If I press and hold Touch ID button to turn it off it seems to turn off but when I press it again goes back to same behaviour.

If I try and do recovery or any resets it goes back to the backlight flashing on and off with no difference in behaviour. I don’t get startup sound or anything else. Same if I press and hold power.

Hi,

Have you tried connecting the MacBook Pro to an external display?

If not please try this and post back results.

Yea I connected to an external display and nothing happened.

It’s like it doesn’t respond to power off even if I hold it for 30s plus. The backlight still flashes on and off. I am currently trying to let it run out of battery

Hi,

Possibly try this, it has worked for others.
  1. Unplug the power cable.
  2. Hold the power button for 20 sec.
  3. When you reach 10 plug the power cable back in.
  4. After the 20 seconds, it should power up.
Please post back results.
