I've got a 2011 iMac (21.5") 2.5GHz Intel core i5. Running El Capitan (10.11.5)
I've maxed out on software upgrades and until last year everything was running fine. Now I'm having major difficulty opening programs. I've run Disc Doctor and a couple other utility programs but I can't figure this out.

The other problem I have is the program/function to put the display to sleep doesn't work. Now if I leave the screen on, my computer will log itself out, by itself.

I would love any thoughts that anyone has. I know I'm fighting a losing battle given the age of my machine but I would like to keep it running as long as possible.

Thank you for your time,
Margie

Hello and welcome.

-How much free space is left on the drive?
-All applications or just some?
-Which applications won't launch and which versions are they?
-Have you had other issue recently, like hanging/freezing?
-Which other utility applications did you try, and did you get any errors or warnings?
