imovie and final cut wont print to tape?????

I am so desperate and running out of time.
I have read all my books, did what-ever I could think of
yet I cant get my imovie to print to tape because it keeps telling me my fire wire connection was lost.
And when I try to manually print to tape in FCP It's not recording.
I have tried two different fire wires.
I got transfered tape onto imovie and FCP so I dont know what the problem is now??????????
Anyone have ANY ideas at all???
I am so lost and so behind a deadline to get this stuff off my computer.
