El Capitan Installed --> No Eject Key Delay

I just installed El Capitan 10.11.4 on my Mac Pro (Early 2009).

My eject key no longer has a delay, as it is supposed to. Even the quickest press of the eject key and the DVD tray opens.

Any ideas on how to get the delay working on my eject key?

(I know I could get an app to remap the eject to something else, and put an eject button on my menu bar, but that's a clumsy solution.)

-Is it an actual Mac Pro or a MacBook Pro?
-Have you tried a PRAM and/or SMC reset?

Thanks for your reply.

It is a Mac Pro desktop. Early 2009, with a case like a G5, and a wired keyboard.

I just tried a PRAM and a SMC reset, but still no delay on the Eject key.

Hrmm.

Thanks for replying.

It is an Apple keyboard, and it is wired:

From this page: https://support.apple.com/kb/PH21528?locale=en_US

OS X El Capitan: If keys on your keyboard don’t work

If the Media Eject key or Caps Lock key doesn’t work
Try holding down the key longer. These keys have a slight delay to prevent an immediate response if they’re pressed accidentally. Hold down the Media Eject key until the Media Eject icon appears on your screen, and hold down the Caps Lock key until the key’s indicator light lights up.

Indeed, my Caps Lock key has a slight delay, as it always has, but since updating to El Capitan, the Eject key does not. Very curious.

I asked the author of Karabiner, and NoEjectDelay if he had any insight on this issue.

His response:

I confirmed that the eject key delay is disappeared with the wired Apple keyboard.
I guess it is difficult to restore the delay, but we can disable eject key by Karabiner. It prevents accidental disc eject.

New setting by this private.xml allows you to disable eject key.
(You can eject disc by fn-eject)
https://raw.githubusercontent.com/t...rabiner/private.eject_by_fn_eject/private.xml

How to use private.xml:

That is the solution I've gone with. The eject key is disabled, but I can use fn-eject when I need to eject the DVD drive.

Strange that Apple removed the delay. I'm glad you found a workaround, and thanks for the information about it.

Be well,

C
