DVD Player Software...

The latest update(s) have screwed up the DVD player software, and others on the machine. Used to be if you moved the cursor to the top of the screen, a linear listing would pop up allowing you to go to another song - well, it's gone with the 'upgrades'. They have also slowed the machine down noticeably. I only use the Mac pretty much anymore for music anyway. I use the other 3 windows boxes for any 'computing'. I can't follow the Mac anymore. I got a frozen program on the screen, and the only way to clean it was a reboot. Half of the programs I had a month ago no longer work after the 'upgrades'..... Thank you Apple!
I'd really like to fix this problem, but if I can't, I'll just shut it down ad let it collect dust.

-What version of OS X/macOS?
-Do you mean the actual DVD Player app?
-How much free space is left on the drive?
