Need more information:
1. Exact Mac model you have.
2. Exact Mac OS you are running. And if you upgraded recently to that OS, did you upgrade "in place", ie, basically have the new OS overwrite the prior one?
3. Have you ever done any disk cleanup/maintenance/repairs?
4. This is critical: are you making backups to an external device?
