Well I was originally gonna buy a cheap-o pc until a friend was talking to me about an apple he had heard about an told me all the cool stuff that make it inferior to Windows. So I did a bit of researching liked what I heard and saw then got my first ever computer an iMac.

Which makes me a pure breed mac user :D

mostly because im used to it
you cant erase nearly a decade of windows use just like that
the familiarity of the OS
and the task bar ( something i am stil sorley missing with the mac even though the dock makes a a good effort )

acdsee 2.4 also helps its the aplication that i have been using since 99 to manage my files and im stil looking for equivalent on the mac

Hi there,

I know what you mean...I end up with keyboarditus sometimes...using shortcuts on one OS when it's for a different one ;-)

have you tried any Mac Photo software... iPhoto or the like ?

Is acdsee just Photo management, I haven't used it myself !

acdsee's basic function is being a graphic viewer
but it is capable of moving copying mass moving deleting altering and creating new folders and files
all with a keyboard
and i tend to use it alot to manage and oder my files aroudn it is much easier faster and efficient to use then windows explorer

i tried iphoto but it is not what i am looking for
imlooking for acompeltley keyboardable equivalent of acdsee 2.4
..or mostly keyboardable oen that allowes me to alter and move or delete files as wel instea dof just look at them

having not acdsee or an equivalent on the mac is a enormous hurdle for me perhaps even the biggest because i need that aplication to manage myfiles

im dependant on 8 year old ap to manage my files

I voted for switcher but I'm really still in denial as in OMG, I actually bought a Mac, what will ppl at work say?. Thing is, I work in the graphic industry but my first two jobs both used the windows platform. At home I always had a 'PC' as well. Didn't really matter much performance wise, at my current job I had a G4 Dual something boosted and at home the equilivant Pentium 4. A couple of months back I got a new G5 dual at work with the wide screen and i'm used to working with a wacom tablet rather then a mouse. The problem was, from a 17" at home to a 23" wide at work, from the P4 to the G5.. that just got annoying pretty fast. On top of that the difference in the keyboards. So I went shopping for a new PC. And compared the prices of what a PC would cost me compared to the G5 at work. And found it didn't really matter - much to my surprise. Sure, you can get a new PC for around 500.. but when you do some serious boosting, you're up in the 2 to 3K in no time. And that became the decisive factor. In my opinion the Mac is still a little more expensive on average but not that much anymore, not enough anyway to go for a PC when price is an issue. Besides, I can use the Adobe software from work at home which saves me a lot to. So... here i am, sitting behind my G5 at home :) And quite happy with it.

I switched a couple of years ago and never looked back. I build computers, and fix them, and have built all my children's too, but now my 12 year old daughter has sold hers and pinched my old Mac mini - so she is a switcher too who much prefers Macs.

I am trying to get the lads to change, but they like playing PC games on theirs, but I think a console would be better (less hassle, no installing etc)

My husband is not PC savvy and he always had error messages and used to want me to sort them out all the time. Since owning the Macs, he much prefers them and I never have to sort anything out!

I have to add that since using Macs I have less tolerance for fixing people's computers now, and I refuse to build them anymore. I can also see how much Windows OS is bloated compared to OSX too. While both OS's have their uses, I much prefer working with OSX, but when I first got a Mac I wondered where everything was, and did not think I would get used to it.

I will never buy any PC parts again - ever, apart from buying bits to upgrade the kids along the way unless they all convert to Mac by then :D

cheaper too
for the price of a vid card you have a xbox or ps2
and you wil never ever have to upgrade it or have trouble playing games on it
okay console advocation speech over

regarding switching i stil have the feeling everybody is taking it to lightly and making it sound as its too easy i have bene using windows since 96
and trying to switch since 2001
and i am stil not completley turned over

( course the disasterous first mac encounter didnt help a 6300 ( please try not to puke people ) that gave my then pc a boot virus a bondi blue imac that croaked just as i was getting used to it etc )

I am a switcher. I started building computers when I was 11 years old. I can't play most sports because I am legally blind. So I sat around building computers.

Then it took off. Got into website designing, programing (VB, C++, Java, and hopefully Cocoa soon, when I get time :D ).

Two years ago, my POS Dell started falling apart. It got soooo freaking hot that it warped the keyboard, burned the underside, and the HD exploded a couple of months later. I honestly take good care of my computers. :p After seeing the $300 USD price tag to fix it, I gave up. Having messed around with Macs that my friends had, I became addicted. (God bless those widgets LOL)

Now in my first year of owning a Mac (June 27) I am in charge of editing/uploading Podcasts for my church, and I am working on my Apple Genius certifications. I will hopefully land a job at apple as a Mac Specialist in the next week or two. Now you know my life story. Enjoy the essay!

WOW, I just realized that I have come a long way since my year of owning a Mac.

Um... I've switched yes, twice actually. I began using computers back in '92/'93 or so (dads PowerBook 100-something), then got my own Performa 475 in '94. As I was looking for a new computer in '99 my so-called "friends" convinced me of getting a PC because of the greater multitude of games for the Windows platform, so I got parts to build my own PC, including an Athlon 550, a Voodoo 3 3500, and 128MB RAM. I've been running PC's since then but got a foot in the Mac camp again in '05 when I got my Mini, so now I'm a "mixer". I prefer the Mac for some reasons (ease of use, and the terrific iLife suite being two), but Windows for others (games being one :p, and being-used-to-it is another)

So: Apple->PC->Mix ... two switches.

Oh, yeah, and the Performa 475 still runs perfectly :D (can't say the same about most of the PC's I've had)

I have always had a foot in each pond, Windows and Mac. I was in education and most schools I worked in had Macs and then around the time Al Gore "invented the Internet" (LOL :) ) A lot of schools started switching, especially at the High School level. Boy was I ever busy troubleshooting those computers. Fast forward 10 years, I have an iMac at home and 20 Win XP machines I babysit in a public computer lab. Very interesting how effortless and easy my computer use is at home compared to my work PC. I just use it and it works. There are no moody days or blue screens of death. I love it....just talked my mom into switching. I think it is a good thing, but it may be suicide, as I will be responsible for teaching her. Thankfully the apples are easier to use.

LOL !

But you aren't switching...you are using both.

There are lots of Application launchers etc that may help.

It's worse for you because you are still using both sytems. If 6 years ago you had sold/binned your PC's then you would (possibly) find Macs a little less frustrating.

You can see the best of both worlds and thats where the frustration comes in...

Every day I use multiple OS's and understand where you are coming from.

I don't understand the problem with Finder windows ? What would you like them to do ?

regards

Ric
