I have an Apple Watch Series 8, and before updating to WatchOS 10.5, the battery would last about 3 days. Since the update, it only lasts around 18 hours. I've checked the settings for any changes that might be causing the drain, but I can't seem to find anything. Does anyone have suggestions on how to fix this issue? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Here are some steps you can take to try and resolve the battery drain on your Apple Watch Series 8 after updating to WatchOS 10.5:

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. Restart Your Apple Watch and iPhone:
    • Sometimes, a simple restart can resolve battery issues.
    • Apple Watch: Press and hold the side button until you see the Power Off slider. Drag the slider to turn off your watch. To turn it back on, press and hold the side button until you see the Apple logo.
    • iPhone: Press and hold the side button and either volume button until the power off slider appears. Drag the slider to turn off your iPhone. To turn it back on, press and hold the side button until you see the Apple logo.
  2. Update to the Latest Software:
    • Ensure that both your Apple Watch and iPhone are running the latest software updates. Apple frequently releases updates that include bug fixes and performance improvements.
    • Apple Watch: Open the Watch app on your iPhone, go to General > Software Update.
    • iPhone: Go to Settings > General > Software Update.
  3. Check Battery Usage:
    • On your Apple Watch, go to Settings > Battery to see which apps or features are consuming the most battery. If you notice any apps using an unusual amount of battery, consider uninstalling or limiting their use.
  4. Disable Background App Refresh:
    • Disabling background app refresh can help improve battery life.
    • On your iPhone, open the Watch app, go to General > Background App Refresh and toggle it off.
  5. Adjust Display Settings:
    • Reducing the brightness and disabling the Always On display can help conserve battery.
    • On your Apple Watch, go to Settings > Display & Brightness to adjust these settings.
  6. Disable Unused Features:
    • Turn off features you don’t use, such as Wake Screen on Wrist Raise, or reduce the frequency of notifications.
    • On your Apple Watch, go to Settings > General > Wake Screen and Settings > Notifications to adjust these settings.
  7. Unpair and Re-pair Your Apple Watch:
    • Unpairing and re-pairing your Apple Watch can sometimes resolve software issues.
    • Open the Watch app on your iPhone, go to All Watches, tap the info button next to your watch, and tap Unpair Apple Watch.
    • Follow the on-screen instructions to re-pair your watch.

Reset to Factory Settings

If the above steps don't resolve the issue, consider resetting your Apple Watch to factory settings:

  1. Reset Apple Watch:
    • On your Apple Watch, go to Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Content and Settings.
    • Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the reset.
  2. Set Up as New:
    • Instead of restoring from a backup, set up your Apple Watch as a new device to avoid bringing any potential issues from the backup.
