Why won't emails load in Mail?

It seems that since I upgraded to High Sierra quite often when I click on an email it doesn't load. I wait a while but it still doesn't load so I must try another email (which always opens) and then go back to the one I initially tried to open and it will then open. Can I fix this problem? Thank you.

Hello,

-Are you running the latest macOS High Sierra 10.13.4?
-How many email accounts are setup in Apple Mail?
-How many emails are in the Inbox?

OK, thanks for the info.

-Does it seem to happen in all accounts, or just some?
-In Mail > Preferences... > General > Check for new messages: is it set to Automatically? Have you tried any of the other settings?
-Are you connected via Wi-Fi or Ethernet to your router?

It seems to happen in all accounts;
Mail > Preferences... > General > Check for new messages: is set to "Every 5 minutes";
I am connected via Wi-Fi to my router.

Again, thanks.

Try changing to Check for new messages: Automatically and see if that helps the situation.
