My mac was in storage for three weeks while I moved house. When I turned it on, a red line, about one pixel wide, appeared on the screen. It is vertical, about one third of the way from the left of the screen. Spent about and hour with Apple care trying to fix it without success. Seems like it could be a hardware issue. Anyone have any thoughts? -

In the course of my hour on the phone with Apple, they got me to install Mojave. Now it takes five - six seconds for the screen to come up from sleep whereas before it was instant. What's up with that?

Cannot help you with your "potential" hardware issue. Seems strange, though, that it would all of a sudden happen.

Regarding Mojave, need to ask the usual questions:

1. What Mac OS were you using before?

2. I have never done a Mac OS installation with "assistance" from Apple phone support, but I suspect the installation was done "in place", ie, Mojave basically over wrote what was on your iMac already. Maybe describe the steps you went through with that upgrade/installation.

3. Have you ever done any disk cleanup/maintenance/repairs, from a software perspective? You can actually do quite a lot of disk cleanup on your own, and there are some excellent products available (both free and commercial) that can help you with that.

4. Are you making backups to an external device? That task is so, so critical. If you are doing that, what software do you use for that task?

5. How much free space is on your internal drive?

6. Did you check the site:

https://roaringapps.com/apps

to insure that all your third-party (ie, non-Apple) applications are compatible with Mojave?

Dear Honestone

Thanks for trying but most of your questions are beyond my capacity to answer intelligently.

The Apple guy guessed that the red line problem was a hardware issue - the Mac is 6 years old - and repair cost might approach replacement cost.

I'll live with it.

Thanks again, anyway Frank T
