How to Fix Battery Draining Fast After iOS 17.4.1 Update

Experiencing rapid battery drain after updating to iOS 17.4.1 can be frustrating. Here are practical solutions to fix this issue and extend your iPhone's battery life.

How to Reduce Battery Draining after iOS 17.4.1 Update:

1. Force Restart Your iPhone

  • Press and immediately release the Volume Up button.
  • Press and immediately release the Volume Down button.
  • Press and hold the Side button until you see the Apple logo, then release.
  • Wait for your iPhone to restart.
A force restart can refresh your system and potentially fix battery drain issues.

2. Disable Bluetooth (if you aren’t using it)

  • Open the Settings app.
  • Select Bluetooth.
  • Toggle Bluetooth to Off.

  • Tap on your profile icon at the top-right corner.
  • Select Update All.

  • Go to Settings > Privacy & Security > Location Services.
  • Scroll and select System Services.
  • Toggle Off for Alerts and Shortcuts Automation.

Disabling this prevents your iPhone from using resources to suggest journal entries.

  • Find and select App Privacy Report.
  • Tap on Turn Off App Privacy Report.

Low Power Mode reduces background activity and extends battery life.

  • Open Settings and go to Display & Brightness.
  • Tap on Auto-Lock.
  • Choose a time duration, for instance, 30 seconds.

A shorter auto-lock duration prevents the screen from staying on too long, conserving battery.

9. Disable Background App Refresh

  • Navigate to Settings > General > Background App Refresh.
  • Disable it entirely at the top or select specific apps to disable.

Stopping apps from refreshing in the background conserves battery life.

10. Turn Off Keyboard Haptics

  • Disable Sound and Haptics.

Disabling haptic feedback on the keyboard saves battery each time you type.

11. Close Your Apps

  • Swipe up from the bottom of the screen and pause in the middle (or double-click the home button for iPhones with a Home button).
  • Swipe up on the app previews to close them.
Closing unused apps can help reduce battery drain by stopping them from running in the background.

Additional Notes

Combining these strategies can significantly improve your iPhone's battery life post the iOS 17.4.1 update. Remember, using features like Low Power Mode might limit some functionalities, so adjust settings based on your usage. Regularly check for battery-consuming apps and keep your iPhone's software updated to prevent future battery issues.

i cannot recall if i added the map widget, but that was consuming a consistently high amount of power without any particular activity. upon removal, power consumption returned to almost flat
