Help with file names

I would like to rename a external hdd to "ThorinDev I", but when I rename it and then eject and plug it back in it goes to "THORINDEV I". It is the old hdd from my macbook before I installed an ssd.

Also I can only have a file name a certain length. Any help on fixing that?

Hello and welcome.

It may be that it was formatted for a PC, since it reverts to all CAPS for the name and only allows a certain number of characters.

-Do you have any files/data on that HD that you need, or can you erase it and start fresh?
