Connecting to a network problem.

Hello, my friend has moved into our building in Uni. The network here needs you to input the IP and DNS manually to connect to the internet.

Computer:

MacBook 6,1
Mac OS X 10.6.1

We put the correct network information in and it gets a green light, so it's connected but we can't get on the internet :S. The network here has some strict proxy settings or something, as i can't get onto games like World of warcraft, Cod6 online, Dota etc. So could that be to do with it?
Help please:)
