windows to mac

I have just converted from PC to mac, yah! and had all my data migrated onto iMac
but i cannot modify or continue to work on my old excel spreadsheets, i can open them but cannot modify them, same with word docs
what do i have to buy to be able to continue with these docs previously created in ms to allow me to continue with them in mac

I'm guessing they are stored on an External Drive in Windows Format?

Drag them into the Mac and you should be good to go...
