Was given a Mac Pro with no OS.

So my ex gave me a used Mac Pro tower. She said she thinks it a quad core processor but is not sure. So how do I start up thi Mac and find out what I should be running?

If there is no operating system installed, have a look on the tower for a serial number and post it here & we'll help you from there.
