? View 2005 Mac mini files on iMac?

Hi all, what’s the best way to connect the two so as to view files from my dad’s old Mac mini 2005 on my iMac? The Mac mini has a FireWire port, a display port, and a USB port. Turns out I don’t have any of the right cords. If I’m going to buy one, rather have it be the best. Does usb to usb work, am I going back old school to fire wire, or should I connect through display port? My iMac is 2017. Thanks much.
