Video won't play

I have a Mac desktop with OS X Yosemite and up to date Safari. I have been watching videos of operas from Metropolitan Opera for several months, Two weeks ago I started getting an error message when I clicked on the arrow to start playing the opera. The message is MEDIA_ERR_DECODE with statement that Video is in a format that cannot be played on your browser. I have a good internet connection and can play the operas on my iPad.
