Using MacMail without an internet connection

Have El Capitan, using MacMail client and MS Exchange server.

I can create a new mail. I can reply to a mail, and keep in Outbox. But I cannot delete a mail, when off line. Which actually makes it pretty hard to stay up to date, when replying to something, you then want to delete etc. Like to clear out my mailbox on long flights, hence no internet.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Hello and welcome.

You probably cannot delete emails without an Internet connection due to the way Exchange Servers handle email. Your Mac syncs with the Exchange Server, so the email you see is simply a local cached version of the email. The actual email resides on the server. Exchange can be quite a pain sometimes.
