I have a 20" iMac running OS10.9.5 and am wondering if this could be used in any way as a monitor for a 21.5" iMac (Retina 4K 2017) running OS 10.15.7.

Any guidance will be appreciated or do I have to get a more modern computer?

iMacs built between 2009 and 2014 can be run in Target Mode, as monitors for other Macs. Is your iMac one of these?

Hello Howard
It looks as though my old iMac is a 2007/8 model so presumably this cannot be used.

This is interesting, thanks. I have a 2011 - 27 inch iMac. So if I got a new Mac I could still use this Mac as a monitor, right? I know how to do Target Mode for transferring files. Same procedure?

Thanks Howard,

Well that was nice to see this will work with my 2010 iMacs. I have never used or heard of "Target Mode" are there articles here on the Step by Step or "Help" within the 2012 Mac Mini "Help Menu" running Catalina?
