Use right-click to open menu

Hi everyone!

I have a problem that is absolutely driving me insane +_+
I want to use right click on my mac. I have a 'normal' USB mouse (Apple mouse doesn't work for me) that has a right-click button, and now I want it to open the shortcut menu when I right click on something, instead of that horrible zooming-out thing it does.
I've found a thousand guides that tell me to use ctrl+click, but I just want to use the right-click button on my mouse. I installed USB Overdrive and it worked, for one day. Now it inexplicably doesn't seem to work any longer as it's doing the zooming-out thing again.
If anyone knows a solution, I would be very grateful as this has become increasingly frustrating.

Thanks very much,
Stelly

Hello and welcome.

-Which version of OS X?
-What brand/model is the USB mouse?

Hi Cory, and thank you :)

I'm running OS X version 10.9.5.
The mouse is a generic brand i bought at one of those dollar stores, Maxxter.
It has two buttons, a wheel and some small buttons on the side that I don't use.

Thanks!

OK, thanks for the additional information.

-Are you running USB Overdrive 3.2?
-Does it still show in System Preferences?
-Do the other functions in the preference pane work?
-Is it in specific apps, or all?
