Update from OS 10.5.8 to OS 10.6.8 problems

Hello. I have been trying to update from 10.5.8 to 10.6.8. I am able to download the update, but when I try to install it says "Need OS 10.6.8 or higher." Can anyone please help me? How am I supposed to update to 10.6.8 if it just instructs me that I need 10.6.8 to do so?

First you need to purchase Snow Leopard 10.6 from the Apple Store in your country, they will post you the dvd (approx $20.00) then you can install that combo update (10.6.8)
