Touch ID fingerprint recognition iPhone 8

My iPhone 8 quit recognizing the fingerprint I always use. I scanned it again--no luck. I know this is a minor problem, but it's inconvenient to use other fingers or my thumb to open the phone. Any ideas?

Hello and welcome.

It could be that the fingerprint sensor is dirty. You could try cleaning it with a very slightly damp cloth and solution designed for eyeglasses. Again, VERY slightly damp, or you could damage the iPhone, and end up with an out of warranty/physical damage repair.
