I need to back-up this computer so I can buy a new one and transfer data. I tried the "back-up Time machine" and got a pop-up that it could not be found and has not backed up since Oct. of last year. It is on and connected, the functioning light is blinking, the disc is selected, auto backup is selected. I have disconnected it trying to get a reboot of possible but no joy so now what ?
Thank you,
Randy

Hello,

I ran into this recently. Try going into the Time Machine preference pane, click Select Disk... and reselect the same Time Machine disk you used previously. It may say there are no backups on it, so click the box to Show Time Machine in menu bar. Then click the Time Machine icon on the menu bar and select Backup Now.

See if that starts a backup. If so, it will update the stats to show the oldest backup you had on the drive when it completes.
