My iMac has 4 USB ports and two Thunderbolt 2 ports on the back. I have a refurb iPad, 6th Gen, that I need to connect to one of the Thunderbolt ports. My question is this; in selecting a cable from a 3rd party vendor, are those TB ports 4-pin or 9-pin?
Thanks for any help.

Hello and welcome.

I don't belive you can connect an iPad to a Thunderbolt 2 port, as I haven't ever seen a Lightning to Thunderbolt cable. The Thunderbolt 2 ports on your iMac are for Thunderbolt drives and/or video displays. The only cables that I know of that came in 4-pin and 9-pin are FireWire.

Is there a reason you cannot use one of the 4 USB ports?
